Lunch seminar

The social status of platform workers is a hot legal topic in many EU Member States and at EU level. The aim of this seminar is to provide an update on some of the important legislative and case law developments within the EU.
Firstly, Ana Ribeiro, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law of Port, will discuss the new presumption of employment contract introduced into Portuguese labour legislation in April 2023 and the first judicial applications of this new rule.
Then, Camille Lorgeoux, researcher at the ULB and riders’ lawyer in the Deliveroo case in Belgium, will give us an insider perspective on the 2023 Brussels Labour Court ruling on the social status of these workers.
Finally, Silvia Rainone, Senior researcher at the European trade Union, will focus on the EU’s attempt to establish a regulatory framework for platform work and the difficulties and challenges surrounding the negotiation of the Directive proposal.
